The VC roll can be applied to various different types of new or existing rolling mill such as 2 -Hi rolling mill and 4 -Hi rolling mill. The VC roll can also be employed in various rolling mills used for aluminum and copper. The VC roll was originally researched and developed based on our roll manufacturing technology and rolling technology, which is highly appreciated in the industry. |

The VC roll consists of a sleeve, arbors, and a rotary joint. The sleeve is shrink-fitted over the arbor and the rotary joint is located at the end of the arbor. A cylindrical clearance is provided between the sleeve and arbor as an oil chamber. An oil-leading pass is drilled in the center of the arbor, which leads to the oil chamber. High-pressure oil is fed from the hydraulic unit to the oil chamber through the rotary joint and oil-leading pass in the center of the arbor, which finally expands the diameter of sleeve at its center. The sleeve and arbor are made of special forged steel, and the outer surface of the sleeve is highly hardened. The inner portion of the sleeve is heat-treated in two steps to ensure a high degree of toughness. The function of the rotary joint, specially developed for exclusive use in the VC roll, is to supply the oil into the roll from the hydraulic unit, allowing roll rotation. There are three ports, one is for high pressurized oil and the other two are for low-pressure oil used for lubrication and cooling respectively. These are connected through easily detachable joints. As explained here, the VC roll is highly reliable and easily operated and maintained.

The VC roll system consists of the VC roll, hydraulic unit, and control console and operation panel. Moreover, thanks to its high response capability, it is easy to install to the automatic flatness control system (AFC).

The hydraulic unit for the VC roll keeps the primary circuit pressure at 20 MPa. The oil in the secondary circuit, adjustable over a pressure range of 0 to 49 MPa by the pressurizing equipment, supplies the oil under controlled pressure to the VC roll. The secondary high-pressure oil is, in an emergency, forced to return to the oil tank through the emergency circuit under any abnormal condition. Whenever any problem occurs with the pressure gauges and/or servo valves, the pump will be stopped. To avoid the secondary pressure rising to 49 MPa or higher, a dual safety design is adopted between the pressurizing equipment and the pressure gauges. The pressure inside of the roll is directly measured by the pressure gauge, and if integrated in AFC system, this measured pressure data is transmitted to the control system. Thus the system is under quick and accurate control.

The VC roll can immediately change the crown by hydraulic force supplied into the inner portion of the roll, thus allowing the operator to change the shape of the rolled material without interrupting operation. If the rolled material has edge waves, it is necessary to increase the pressure until the material becomes flat. On the contrary, if there are any center buckles, it is necessary to decrease the pressure until the material becomes flat. If the AFC system is installed, these control operations are conducted automatically. As you can see, the VC roll is of a very simple construction, and very easy actuator for operators to work with. This means that installing this VC roll can immediately realize tremendous improvements in the shape of rolled products, which surely results in a great deal of benefit for our customers.
