Activities to develop human resources

Human resources make a company alive. Our basic approach to developing these resources is grounded in the idea that "work develops people." We are promoting the self-improvement of all employees by giving careful consideration to individual characteristics when placing and transferring personnel, and by providing employees with suitable duties in a clear manner.
On this basis of clear assignment of duties and self-improvement, our employees develop through their everyday work, which is supplemented by off-job training to acquire the specialized knowledge, techniques, and ideas that are required in their work.

In order to draw out the maximum potential of our employees and so that they can feel encouragement about their work, educational programs are in use at all levels of the company, from newly hired school graduates to top management.

Practical globalization training

Globalization training is an important issue for Sumitomo Metals, which has business operations that span the global stage. We have established a language education system based on small sized class so that our employees can gain communication and negotiation skills in the foreign languages that are used in our operations.

English language classes taught by native-speaking instructors are provided for all new employees, and classes in Chinese and other languages are provided to employees who require the languages for their work.
