| Sumitomo Metals offers many products which help customers reduce CO2 emissions. One example is boiler tubes for ultra-supercritical power plants that we have developed. These tubes contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by raising efficiency of coal - fired thermal power generation. Our products are estimated to reduce our customers’ CO2 emissions by arround 9 times more than our CO2 emission in manufacturing process of those products. | ||||
To protect the environment by employing our technological prowess is a tradition at the Sumitomo Group. Long ago, Sumitomo’s copper refinery in Besshi on Shikoku Island produced harmful sulfurous gas that polluted the surrounding area. In 1913, however, Sumitomo succeeded in making fertilizer by processing that gas. We thus produced useful goods (fertilizer) from contaminated materials (sulfurous gas.) Sumitomo Metals is carrying on the Sumitomo tradition to help protect the environment with its technologies.
